Labour costs

The labour cost index measures short-term changes in average hourly labour costs.

The expenditure component includes employee compensation, with wages and salaries in cash and in kind, employers’ social contributions and employment taxes regarded as labour costs less any subsidies received. Hours worked are as defined in the national accounts (ESA 2010).
